Told You Need a ‘D2’ Reach Truck Certificate? Here’s What to Say
A D2 Reach Truck certificate is no longer something to ask for. Since 19 January 2026, that category has been merged into D1 by ABA (the Accrediting Bodies Association for Workplace Transport), the industry body that sets these categories.
If you hold a valid D1 Reach Truck certificate, you’re qualified. D1 isn’t a lower or different category – it’s simply the new name for what used to be split between D1 and D2.

D2 Reach Truck Certificate vs What Actually Matters for the Job
It isn’t the letter on your certificate – it’s the training height recorded on it (e.g. “up to 8 metres”) and your experience at that height. If a role needs a height you haven’t trained at yet, that’s a quick top-up (Familiarisation or Specific Job Training), not grounds to reject an application outright.
Feel free to forward this page to your recruiter or employer, or point them to ABA’s own update. For the fuller picture, see our explainer for employers and agencies, or read more about our Reach Truck training course.
For Employers: Need Extra Height Training for a New Starter?
If your team needs training beyond 8 metres, we can send an instructor to your premises for Familiarisation or Specific Job Training, using your own equipment. Get in touch or call 0121 294 9395 to discuss what your team needs.
