Told You Need a ‘D2’ Reach Truck Certificate? Here’s What to Say

Since 19 January 2026, the “D2” Reach Truck certificate category no longer exists – it’s been merged into D1 by ABA (the Accrediting Bodies Association for Workplace Transport), the industry body that sets these categories.

If you hold a valid D1 Reach Truck certificate, you’re qualified. D1 isn’t a lower or different category – it’s simply the new name for what used to be split between D1 and D2.

What Actually Matters for the Job

It isn’t the letter on your certificate – it’s the training height recorded on it (e.g. “up to 8 metres”) and your experience at that height. If a role needs a height you haven’t trained at yet, that’s a quick top-up (Familiarisation or Specific Job Training), not grounds to reject an application outright.
